It has been a regular ol’ Santa’s workshop around here lately! I am crafting up a storm. Yesterday I made six of these puppies:

Here’s the tutorial I followed. I wear a headband like this almost every day. It’s probably my favorite accessory and is especially handy when my bangs are in the annoying growing-out stage, or when I’m camping and haven’t washed my hair for days. I am so glad I learned how to make this kind of headband and I hope that my girlfriends who receive them will find them as handy and as cute as I do.
Hope your gift-making is going well! We’re getting down to the wire!

Very cute! Lucky friends!!
So cute & very functional! Thanks for the idea!
love your fabric!
hi Tonia, these are gorgeous! I noticed that the tutorial is for little girls size, how have you adjusted the dimensions for grown-ups?
Laura- Yes, glad you asked. I used my own head as a guide and made the thick part of the band 30″ wide and 18″ long, including seam allowance (1/4 inch). I cut the small piece that the elastic goes in to 3″ wide and 9″ long. The elastic piece gets cut to half that length, so that the fabric scrunches up once the elastic is sewn in.
Hold the headband up to your head as you go and make sure it fits…if it’s turning out too snug or too loose, it’s easy to adjust by cutting the small piece of fabric and the elastic shorter or longer. I had one turn out too snug for some reason, but once I got the hang of it they all came out the same size.
Using a stretchy fabric like jersey would give you some leeway. Bonus points for anyone who makes these out of old t-shirts!!
