30 for 30: The Picks

I’m pretty excited about the 30 for 30 Challenge! I spent the whole weekend doing laundry so I would have some clean clothes to work with. Valentine’s Day is tomorrow, which will be a great excuse to put together a cute outfit {Mike and I will be hitting Stage North for a glass of wine after taking a ski through the woods.}

Here are my 30 pieces of clothing, which will be remixed into 30 different outfits:

Obviously, I like stripes. I also had to fight the urge to pick more than one plaid shirt…Is it weird to say that I think my sense of style could be summed up as “Rustic French”?? Or maybe “Equestrian Tomboy Chic”?? Do either of those make any sense?? This is why I blog about eco-friendly living instead of fashion…….

I actually really like wearing skirts, but it’s tough to do in the winter without freezing your toosh off. Which is why I purchased some nice thick stockings, and cut the feet off a pair of old wool socks to make leg warmers. Skirt + stockings + leg warmers= nice and toasty!

I can get by with just four pairs! Two pairs of jeans {one skinny, one boyfriend cut}, one pair of wool trousers, and one pair of black pants.

Dresses are great because they’re easy. You put one on, add a couple accessories, and you’re good to go. The whole matching-your-shirt-to-your-pants-to-your-shoes dilemma is nonexistent. If something comes up and I need to make myself look pulled together in a hurry, I usually reach for a simple dress like one of the two I chose here.

Next up is the key to any winter outfit: sweaters! The more wool content in a sweater, the warmer it is. So many sweaters these days are made from cotton or wool blended with other fibers, and they’re just not very warm at all.

Pure wool garments are a tiny bit more hassle because you have to hand wash them and dry them flat on the floor, but they’re so worth it in terms of warmth. Four of the sweaters below are pure wool, and the other two are lighter weight {good for layering}.

And last but not least, SHOES! Possibly my favorite part of any outfit. I don’t own many shoes compared to some women, because I usually can’t afford the ones I want. The shoes I own get a lot of wear and tear. They’re like old pals, and I love them: my mukluks because they’re warm, my leather boots because they go with everything, my black heals for date-night, my mocs for every day, my ankle boots because they rock, and my oxfords because they go with everything that the leather boots don’t.

And that’s 30, folks! I counted twice, so I sure hope it’s 30! I’m anxious to see what I can come up with using these pieces. Stay tuned…

    We have the exact same standing mixer. Did you know?

    I do not, however, have an adorable vintage cake carrier in which to place my freshly baked, heart-shaped blueberry tea cakes. So, congrats– you’re still one step ahead of the Joneses…

    hahaha beth!! i see i have you nicely fooled. the fantastic thing about photography is you can show the cool stuff and not show the uncool stuff….like the unsightly pile of mail on the kitchen counter that needs to be sorted. i conveniently pushed that out of the way before my photoshoot. 😉 but yeah that vintage cake carrier is one of my Top 10 Favorite Household Things That is Totally Unnecessary But Really Cute So Therefore I Love It things. i love that we have the same mixer. butter yellow is a GREAT color!!
